Embarking on a Book Tour
I started writing my first book in 2011 and now, more than eight years later, Radical Acts of Love: How we find hope at the end of life will be published by Canongate on March 5th 2020 in the UK, and on March 24th by Doubleday, in Canada. In two weeks, I will be heading to the UK to help promote the book. I don’t think I quite believe all this yet, and I even hesitate to call myself an author.
Just over a year ago I received an urgent voicemail from my agent in London. “Call me as soon as possible. I have some good news for you,” Jason said. Canongate, a renowned independent publisher in the UK, wanted to make an offer. When I called Jason back I remember the first words out of my mouth were, “Are you sure you sent over the right manuscript?”
Canongate very quickly became the ‘world rights’ home for my book, thanks to my editor Hannah Knowles, and the wonderful team. I couldn’t be happier. To top off the excitement, Doubleday, Canada, offered on the book two weeks later, thanks to the infamous editor, Tim Rostron.
In just over a month from now the twenty stories that have been living and breathing inside me for eight years will now enter the homes and hearts of people, most of whom I will never meet. The wisdom of my teachers, the people in the stories, will live on and hopefully be of service to many people around the globe. May my writing serve as a tribute to each one of those remarkable people—my radical act of love.
My book tour in March will take me to the Lake District in northern England, to Glasgow, Biggar and Edinburgh in Scotland, and then to London for two final events before I head home on March 21st. I plan to write about a few book tour moments here in this section of my website, for those who might be interested. I would love to keep in touch.
